The Swahili civilization during the Middle Ages in Africa was a major player in trade and cultural exchange. The Swahili people were located along the Eastern coast of Africa, from modern-day Somalia to Mozambique. In this program, viewers will learn how the Swahili people developed an advanced trading network that extended as far east as China and India and that the Swahili language was born during this time, influenced by Arabic, Persian and other languages spoken in the region.
